No. A Jamcast account is only necessary if you want to try/buy Jamcast Premium. Your Premium license is associated with the Jamcast account you create. Use Facebook or Google+ for fastest registration.
Jamcast works great on x86/x64 versions of Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2008 SP2, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, and Windows 10.

The Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 is required and will be installed at installation time if not already present on the target machine.
No support for non-Windows operating systems is planned at this time.
Using Jamcast
This is mostly attributed to the initial buffering of audio on the device side. All streaming media players buffer audio to overcome network glitches, etc. The size of the buffer and subsequent duration of playback delay will vary by make/model of playback device.
No, when casting desktop audio the entire Windows mix -- including system sounds -- are streamed to the device.
Sometimes, but on most systems changes to the audio volume on the computer affects the audio stream as well. Consider upgrading to Jamcast Premium for this functionality and more.
Not currently, but we're working on it. In the meantime, using the Cast Desktop Audio feature with Windows Store apps works great!

Yes, Jamcast Media server downloads are available here. Jamcast Premium license holders can still receive product support as well.
